Diving is all about having a good time! We are all pleased to be in the water and excited to learn about diving. For some beginners they often feel anxious and fear jumping into the water. But fear is normal for something that you haven’t experienced before. Now, the important thing is to handle your fear of scuba diving.
- Begin with slowly breathing
It’s totally different when you breathe underwater, you can hear your breathing and you’ll breathe through your mouth. It might be strange at first as it is your first time breathing using a scuba regulator but when you focus, inhale and exhale slowly during your dive you can feel relaxed and you are able to maintain your buoyancy.
- Practice in Calm and Shallow Waters
The best way to face your fear in scuba diving is by practising in the shallow or confined water. In the shallow or confined water you can feel comfortable while getting used to the scuba gear. Rather than do boat entry from the back of a boat, firstly you can try the shore entry - walking from the shore into the dive site or just practising in the pool or confined water.
- Identify How to Equalise
There are several methods for equalising, such as pinching your nose and swallowing or pinching your nose and blowing air up through your throat. Finding the best effective method for you may be difficult at first.
- Learn the Basic Hand Signals
There are a lot of hand signals, but you have to know the basic signals since you aren't able to speak normally like you're on the surface. In this way you can make smooth communication while you are diving underwater.
- Think Positive Thoughts
Positive thought is the key to face your fear. Focus on what you want to achieve and try to challenge yourself by doing something that you haven't done before.
